Travel and accommodation

Setúbal is included in the metropolitan area of Lisbon, capital of Portugal, so there are excellent accessibilities in terms of road, rail and sea-river transport. Lisbon International Airport is within a 40 minutes’ drive away from Setúbal, and there are several public transportation options, namely by bus and train. Travelling from Setúbal City Centre to Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) with public transportation is available by bus and train. By car is 10 to a 15 minute’s drive.

Travelling from Lisbon Airport to Setúbal city center

Option 1 (Bus from Airport + Train to Setúbal)

Aerobus from the Airport to Entrecampos. Take the Fertagus train to Setúbal Station (final stop for the Fertagus train).

NOTE: Be sure to get on a train that has Setúbal as its final destination. There are Fertagus trains that stop before reaching Setúbal.

Option 2 (Metro from Airport + Bus to Setúbal) Metro (subway) from the Airport (red line) to Oriente station, and from there take the Carris Metropolitana bus 4720 to Setúbal.

Option 3 (Other alternatives by public transit)

Use the Metro network to get to one of the Fertagus stations in Lisbon:

  • Roma-Areeiro: Both Roma and Areeiro metro station from the green line are close to this train station.
  • Entrecampos: The yellow line stops at this station.
  • Sete Rios: The Jardim Zoológico metro station connects to this train station. If you get to Sete Rios, you can also take the 4725 bus to Setúbal.
  • Campolide: This is the last Fertagus station is Lisbon before the train crosses the 25th of April bridge towards the south bank of the Tagus river. However, there is no metro station in the vicinity of this station.

These stations may also be accessible be other means, such as buses from Carris Metropolitana.

Option 3

Taxi or Uber/Bolt

  • Around 70€/80€ from the airport to the Setúbal city centre.

Option 1

Carris Metropolitana Bus 4402, 4411 or 4437 at stop number 3, leaving from the Setúbal main bus station (ITS - Praça do Brasil). The bus stops near campus is called *Alto Estefanilha (IPS).

You may buy the ticket to the bus driver or buy a group of prepaid cards in the bus main station.

Option 2

  • Take the CP train at the Setúbal central station (ITS - Praça do Brasil), or at the Praça do Quebedo station towards *Praias do Sado A.
  • Leave once you reach the final station (Praias do Sado A).
  • You can access the campus through a footway nearby.

Option 3

Taxi or Uber/Bolt

  • Around 10€.
