1st International Conference on Resilience and Sustainable Regions

The International Conference on Resilience and Sustainable Regions is an international conference organized by Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal with the participation of several international and national institutions. Institutions from Portugal, as well from E³UDRES² Alliance, Businet and International Business Week Network, joined efforts to reflect, discuss, and share advances and trends on different scientific areas that contribute to the resilience and sustainability of the regions.
The conference focuses on exploring and reinforcing the relationship between management and the different areas of technology and engineering to stimulate the development and sustainability of the regions.
With a multidisciplinary approach it is expected that this conference will be attend by participants from more than 15 countries and attracts an interesting public combining academic scholars, practitioners and individuals who are engaged in the topics of:
- Resilient Economy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Collaboration, Governance and Networks
- Marketing, Product and Branding
- Technological, Engineering and Environmental Solutions

Submissions
Abstract Submission Deadline: 8 September 2023 2 October 2023
Abstracts submitted to the ICRSR 2023 will be reviewed by the scientific committees of the conference. The accepted abstracts will be published in the conference’s Abstracts Book.
Full Paper Submission Deadline: 4 December 2023
Authors of accepted and registed abstracts are also encouraged to submit a full paper to be reviewed by the scientific committees of the conference. The selected full papers will be published in the Proceedings journal by MDPI.

Hannes Raffaseder is CEO/President of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and co-initiator and lead coordinator of E³UDRES², the Engaged and Entrepreneurial European University as Driver for European Smart and Sustainable Regions. In June 2023 he was elected President of EURASHE. He was founding director of the Institute for Creative\Media/Technologies and academic director of a master’s program in digital media technology.
As an experienced manager in higher education, Hannes promotes opportunity-driven, challenge-based and mission-oriented approaches and in particular a multi-directional knowledge exchange with society and business as third and fourth mission of universities. Thus, he has successfully co-implemented concepts for engaged and entrepreneurial universities as open platforms for collaborative innovation.
As a professor of media technology, Hannes has many years of teaching experience and managed several research and innovation projects. In the contexts of audio design, media music and sonic interaction, he has published several scientific publications and presented at international conferences.
In addition to his academic work, Hannes is an internationally active, award-winning composer and media artist whose music has been performed in renowned concert halls and art festivals.

Antje Disterheft (PhD) is a researcher and integrated member at Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE), from NOVA School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon. She is enthusiastic about exploring transformative processes that can support keeping human-nature systems in balance.
Her research focuses on capacity building and new approaches to collaboration and co-creation for sustainability in Higher Education Institutions. In the past years, she started to engage deeper with the lens of care when thinking about sustainability and founded The CareLab for People & Planet at her faculty. The CareLab is a new space of collaboration, co-creation and transformative learning where the interlinkages of inner and outer sustainability are explored.
She holds a PhD in Social Sustainability (Universidade Aberta) and is an alumni of the Postdoc Academy for Transformational Leadership. German by nationality, but living in Portugal for more than 17 years, she enjoys being in nature, biking and cooking.

Resilience and Sustainability in Events: Innovative Approaches for Tourist Destinations

Round Table Description: Event tourism is an essential contributor to the economic development and promotion of international tourist destinations. However, events frequently find obstacles resulting from economic, social, and environmental factors. The primary objective of this roundtable discussion is to explore the ways in which events can incorporate sustainability and resilience principles, thereby fostering the development of dynamic and resilient tourism destinations. Speakers will engage in a discourse regarding new methods to mitigate emerging risks, ensure long-term viability, and stimulate tourism in challenging regions.
Discussion Topics: Resilience strategies employed in events to address environmental and social challenges; the positive effects that environmentally responsible event planning can have on tourist destinations; case studies of tourist destinations where the integration of sustainability and resilience into events has been executed successfully; stakeholders’ partnerships to promote resilience and sustainability in tourism destinations.
